a place for peanut is an equine therapy and community supporting non-profit organization that saves horses from kill pens

Founder, Megan Cardet with Peanut

Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?

Megan Cardet, Founder and Owner of A Place for Peanut depends upon her real estate sales to keep A Place for Peanut operating. Without your generous referrals, she cannot sustain her mission of saving more horses and helping more people. Megan believes in giving back to her community and gives all of her buyers and sellers a contribution to their charity of choice at closing as well as A Place for Peanut.

A Place for Peanut was founded January 2016 and is a nonprofit horse sanctuary. Most of our rescues are miniature horses, although we rescue other breeds, as well. We welcome individuals and families who want to make a difference and support our mission.

The Reality of Rescue

Our rescues come from all over the state and are lovingly cared for after being pulled out of kill pens. We bring them to A Place for Peanut for rehabilitation and rehoming. In many cases, there is not a thing wrong with these horses…they are simply unwanted by their owners and dumped. Hard to believe anyone would treat any horse—especially a miniature horse—so cruelly. But that’s the reality. We are intent on changing that reality. Learn more about the kill pens here.

The fate of unwanted horses is simply shocking. Read Peanut’s backstory to truly understand the horrors of kill pens and the importance of rescue. These noble, beautiful animals have been given a new lease on life, and many have found sponsors or forever homes thanks to the organization—and your generosity!

Running with the Herd

There is nothing more beautiful than a horse who heals from neglect, abuse and abandonment. Many of these resilient animals become companions and therapy horses, while others go on to lucrative show careers.
