Horse Sanctuary and Equine Therapy

A Place for Peanut was founded January 2016 and is a non profit horse sanctuary. Most of our rescues are miniature horses, although we rescue other breeds, as well. Our mission is to educate the public and bring joy to children, veterans in hospitals, and others in special programs using equine therapy. We also care for the horses as they await adoption, and welcome families who want to sponsor a horse. Sponsoring is truly a wonderful family event! Moms and dads bring their kiddos to our sanctuary to see newborn foals and interact with the horses. It’s the next best thing to owning a horse!

We are devoted to the rescue, sponsoring and adoption of horses and ponies from all over the state and lovingly care for them in the Tomball, TX area. The acreage is home to a mix of 40 miniature horses, well-trained Arabians and Quarter Horses, Tennessee Walkers, Belgian Drafts and Mustangs—each with compelling backstories that are not for the faint of heart.

The Reality of Rescue

We literally pull horses out of kill pens and bring them to A Place for Peanut. In many cases, there is not a thing wrong with these horses…they are simply unwanted by their owners and dumped. Hard to believe anyone would treat any horse—especially a miniature horse—so cruelly. But that’s the reality. We are intent on changing that reality. Learn more about the kill pens here.

Baby Vida frolics in the field.

The fate of unwanted horses is simply shocking. Read Peanut’s backstory to truly understand the horrors of kill pens and the importance of rescue. These noble, beautiful animals have been given a new lease on life, and many have found sponsors or forever homes thanks to the organization—and your generosity!

Running with the Herd

At A Place for Peanut, adults and children of all ages learn about the bright side of rescue, which is the rehabilitation of neglected, abused and abandoned horses. Many of these beautiful animals become companions and therapy horses, while others go on to lucrative show careers.

How YOU can Help!

At this time, the best thing you can do is help our rescued horses eat and receive veterinarian care.

Currently, A Place for Peanut needs 20 round bales of hay. Our horses need medicine and supplies. Without help, we cannot sustain our mission to save these horses. Consider donating on PayPal or purchasing from our Amazon Wishlist. You can also send a check to our mailing address at 6681 Bayou Glen, Houston, TX 77057. Our volunteer contact is stephany@aplaceforpeanut.com. Our touring contact is gina@aplaceforpeanut.com.

The horses are so grateful for a second chance at life and are blossoming into the horses God meant them to be. Please adopt a horse, sponsor a horse, or donate to help cover the costs. Our 501C3 tax exempt status became effective January 13, 2016. All of your donations are tax deductible and our sponsorship levels are:

1.) Silver at $25/mo.
2.) Gold at $50/mo.
